Hypnoanalysis

The aim of hypnoanalysis is to locate the root cause of a problem or symptom through formal or informal regression techniques.

Often, people want to know why they feel certain emotions, or behave in particular ways.  They are often compelled to discover what causes their behaviours, in the belief this is the only way to overcome them.

Hypnoanalysis is certainly one way to help such people find the answers they seek.  The use of hypnosis to gain entry to the experiences stored in the unconscious can facilitate the discovery of the root of the issue.
Hypnoanalysis is concerned, therefore, with cause and effect; with the belief that we behave, think, and feel emotions in a certain way because of something in our past.

This type of hypnosis is a faster and more effective way of dealing with emotions than psychoanalysis.  Hypnoanalysis is essentially a short-term therapy, with results often being experienced in just three or four hypnosis sessions, whereas traditional psychonalaysis may take months to arrive at the same point.

Clients will be asked to say whatever comes into their mind - memories from the past. They will not be led in any way. This is called 'free association'.  By remembering one incident after another, a person's thoughts and/or memories will lead them back to events and emotions from their past. This is aimed at reliving the sensitising event and recreating the emotions from the past. To experience them again, called an ‘abreaction', and the re-experiencing process facilitates the release.

However, hypnoanalysis has, to a degree, fallen out of favour with many therapists, since more rapid, less traumatic means of resolving problems are preferred. Certainly, I can see little point putting somebody through the emotional upheaval of re-experiencing a traumatic event when it is often unnecessary to do so.
