Past Life Regression

Past Life Regression Therapy (PLR), when undertaken by a properly qualified therapist, can be an exciting and enlightening experience.

People come for Past Life Regression for many different reasons.  The main ones are:

1.   THERAPY - Our character today represents a culmination of all the experiences we have had over numerous lifetimes.  These past life events can affect many aspects of our behaviour, and in some cases, past deeply emotional traumas can cause psychological problems which, sometimes, cannot be helped with ordinary psychotherapy.  PLR therapy can help to release these repressed thoughts and bring about a beneficial change.

2.    UNDERSTANDING - Exploring your past lives offers a whole new dimension to the understanding of your own character.  You may suddenly realise for the first time why you are drawn to certain places or people, or have a particular interest in something.

3.    INTEREST - Many enjoy the experience of tracing their past lives purely from the point of curiosity.  Certain past existences can be pieced together with great detail, producing names, dates and places. Many of these details have been researched and authenticated, resulting in some fascinating literature on the subject.

4.    RELATIONSHIPS - Quite often, groups of interacting souls reincarnate together and take on the roles of relations, friends, or even rivals.  Many believe this happens to balance the laws of karma - the harmony or disharmony caused by peoples behaviour towards each other. Have you ever met someone for the first time, yet feel you have known them all your life?

A past life experience may come from any one of three sources, or a combination of all three: a genuine memory of past life, a genetic memory*, or a metaphor.  Each is a valuable experience and resource which can be learnt from.

It should be borne in mind that sometimes past life memories are unpleasant, sometimes dull, and sometimes seemingly bizarre.  If this is the case, a person should forget about the concepts of ‘reality' and ‘truth', and just go with whatever comes, because whatever comes has a message within it.

Every person is different and therefore experiences the PLR session in a different way - some see everything clearly, some feel the emotions, some gain impressions of what is unfolding, some hear sounds, some smell odours, and some experience everything, either from a position of distance (as though watching a film or television), whilst others are living the experience in all of its rich detail.

Whatever is happening, the person undergoing PLR is in control.  They can choose to stop the session altogether, of if they prefer, dissociate from the unfolding scenes.  (The therapist will guide them through this process).  They always have a choice, especially whether or not to experience their death in that life.

It should be noted that whatever occurs, the person undertaking PLR will be fully aware that they have transcended that death in that life and are here, safe and well, in the present.

* Genetic memory

Genetic memory describes a variety of processes in biology and psychology by which genetic material confers a memory of an individual's (or species') past history.  It can refer to the genetic code of DNA, epigenetic changes (i.e changes in gene expression caused by environmental factors, not by changes in the underlying DNA sequence) to the genetic material, the inheritance of instinct (biology), or racial memory (psychology).

In the case of PLR, we are really thinking about the storage of long-lasting memories, the possibility of a collective unconscious as Carl Jung would have it, an instinctive memory, or the impact of our identity (or identities) leaving a permanent mark on our genome.

These could be the things we ‘recall' or experience during a PLR session, rather than an actual ‘past life'.  And if so, are they any more or less valid than a ‘past life' recalled as though recalling a present life?
